Everton and Lancs chiefs to share business tips

THE bosses of two of the region’s leading sporting institutions, Everton FC and Lancashire Cricket Club are speaking at an event on procurement next week.

Robert Elstone, Everton’s chief executive and Jim Cumbes from Lancashire will be sharing the stage with one of the rising stars of British motorsport, Bradley Smith, a Moto2 racer at the Procurement in Sport forum next Wednesday, organised by Manchester company Optimum Procurement.

Optimum, an ambitious SME, signed a three year deal with Everton in March to help the club reduce cut costs and improve sourcing efficiencies. It has been working with Lancashire CC for some time in a similar fashion.

Peter Rushton, chief executive at Optimum Procurement said: “A professionally managed procurement programme is frequently the key driver to enhancing profitability as reductions in procurement costs flow directly to the bottom line.

“Our clients utilise our expertise to reduce costs, improve sourcing processes and minimise supply side risks.”

He said the Procurement in Sport forum is a “unique opportunity” to hear the views of leading sports professionals on how procurement is enhancing their business performance.

“Our VIP guests will gain an exclusive insight into the key challenges facing football, cricket and MotoGP and how changing business models are shaping the future direction of these sports within a global marketplace.”

He added:  “A passion for sport runs deep throughout Optimum, so we will be closing the forum by watching Lancashire Lightning live in their t20 match versus Leicestershire Foxes, seeing this as the perfect way to end the day.”
