Architects calderpeel wins fire stations PFI

ALTRINCHAM architects firm Calderpeel Group and partner construction group Keir have won a £50m PFI contract in the West Midlands.

Bidding as Blue3, the consortium has been named preferred bidder to design, rebuild and maintain 11 fire stations, for a combined £50m, throughout Staffordshire on behalf of the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

After five organisations took part in the tendering process, Blue3 and Vinci were shortlisted for the project in July 2011, with the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service selecting Blue3.

Listed group Kier will begin construction in early 2013 and once complete, will maintain the community fire stations over a 25-year concession period.

This win follows the recent selection of Blue3 to design, build, finance and maintain nine fire stations for the London Fire Brigade.

Calderpeel – which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year – recently announced it is opening an office in Esher, Surrey, focused on the high-end residential market.

The expansion is being led by Tom Mulroy, who has been with the practice for nine years.
