Accountancy firm in pre-pack deal

A WESTHOUGHTON-based accountancy firm which serviced clients in the retail sector has been bought out of administration by its former directors in a deal which has saved 27 jobs.
EK Williams, which trades as EKW Group and has been in business since around 1935, specialises in providing advice to retail franchisees and independent garage forecourt owners. It was owned by directors Victor and Michelle Wood.
Paul Barber and Francesca Tackie of Manchester-based insolvency firm Begbies Traynor were appointed as joint administrators to EK Williams on June 1.
Mr Barber said: “We have been able to save 27 jobs and sell the business as a going concern.
“After marketing the company’s assets we received a number of expressions of interest. We have now completed the sale to a company connected to the former directors.”
The company’s last abbreviated accounts for 2010 showed that it had net assets of £38,000.
