Elite senses sporting chance

ELITE Telecom has set up a specialist division targeting sales to sports clubs.

The Chorley-based provider of telecoms equipment and services said that it already has a number of high-profile football, rugby union and rugby league clubs on its client list, including Everton, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, Wigan Warriors and Harlequins.

Moreover, following an acquisition spree which saw it snap up four four complementary companies (including a £4.9m deal for London-based GPNS in December 2011) the company felt its enlarged offer was now capable of providing a bespoke sports arm.

The move is part of a strategy which it said should see turnover grow to over £20m this year.

Andrew Turton, head of corporate accounts at Elite Telecom, said: “Since acquiring our first sports client, Wolverhampton Wanderers, more than eight years ago, we have established our credentials through positive word of mouth among the typically tight-knit sports business community and we now provide a range of support solutions to more than a third of the 20 Premier League clubs.

“Major sports clubs have large and passionate fan bases and as such they require a telecoms framework that is capable of handling high call volumes and peaks in activity. They also need reliable 24/7 support, which is a unique element of Elite’s service to sports clients.”

Elite Telecom was founded in 2000 by Matt Newing.
