Funding secured for Crewe transport schemes

CHESHIRE East Council has landed £3.5m of Government money aimed at providing greener transport schemes in Crewe.

The Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) money will fund schemes to promote walking and cycling, such as a town shuttle bus service, new shared cycle and pedestrian routes, a scheme offering mopeds and bike loans to help get unemployed people into work and the funding of sustainable business travel plans for larger employers.

Cllr Peter Groves, Cabinet support member with responsibility for prosperity and economic regeneration, said: “This £3.5m of funding will have immediate and long-lasting effects on the prospects for economic growth and sustainable transport.”

The funding will be spent over the next two and half years until March 2015 and forms part of the All Change for Crewe strategy.
