Plans approved for Liverpool boutique hotel

A PROPOSAL to convert the Grade II-listed Union House building on Victoria St in Liverpool into a 30-bed boutique hotel has been approved.

Plans where brought forward by architects Falconer Chester Hall on behalf of London-based J&M Hospitality Counsultants for the hotel, which will also feature a bar at lower ground floor level and a 90-cover restaurant in the basement.

Union House was built in 1882 and has previously housed many provisions merchants, including the Liverpool agent of tea merchant Tetley & Co. However, it currently lies empty.

Falconer Chester Hall managing director Adam Hall said that its redesign will be sympathetic to the building’s historic features and the Castle St conservation area in which it sits.

He said: “Union House is an extremely well-known and well-situated building in the city, and is deserving of a high quality transformation.

“It adds to our portfolio of successful hotel designs and transformations and we are looking forward to seeing this project through to its conclusion.”

Work is expected to start on site in the autumn and to be completed by spring 2013.
