Region to host X-Factor and MOBO awards

THE North West’s visitor economy is in for an autumn boost after Manchester and Liverpool were unveiled as host cities for the X-Factor final and MOBO awards.
In a break from tradition, Simon Cowell’s X-Factor live final will move from London to Manchester Central for the first time in December, while the MOBO awards will return to Liverpool to the Echo Arena on Saturday November 3.
Visit Manchester estimates the X-factor could boost the local economy by as much as £7m.
The last time the MOBO Awards were held in Liverpool, in October 2010, more than 7,500 music fans flocked to the city bringing an economic boost of more than £1m.
Bob Prattey, chief executive of ACC Liverpool, said: “The MOBO Awards chose Liverpool as the first ever location outside of London to host their prestigious event in 2010, building on the city’s reputation of having a strong musical heritage.
“The awards will be broadcast across BBC platforms so they will provide another fantastic opportunity to show the world that Liverpool successfully hosts significant music events.
“As November’s Awards will take place on a Saturday night, the potential for economic impact is huge with thousands of visitors expected to stay in the city for the weekend.”
Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, added: “This city’s contribution to music is unrivalled and as a vibrant, creative and diverse city, we welcome any opportunity to showcase what Liverpool has to offer.”
