Brabners Chaffe Street scores with 50 transfers

NORTH West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street saw more than its fair share of action before football’s transfer windown slammed shut at 11pm last Friday night.

The Manchester, Liverpool and Preston firm’s sports team acted on more than 50 deals, including some of the summer’s most  high profile deals such as Robin van Persie’s switch from Arsenal to Manchester United for more than £20m.

The firm also acted on Manchester United’s acquisition of Japanese international Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund, Angelo Henriquez from Chile, Alexander Buttner from Vitesse Arnhem, and Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandra.

The team also advised Everton, which also had a busy summer as it bought Steven Pienaar from Tottenham Hotspur, Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos and Matthew Kennedy from Kilmarnock and sold Jack Rodwell to Premier League champions Manchester City, Joseph Yobo to Fenerbache and Tim Cahilll to New York Red Bulls.

On deadline day the firm acted on several last-minute deals – Tottenham Hotspur’s acquisition of Fulham’s Clint Dempsey and French international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris,  Christian Benteke’s transfer to Aston Villa and Uruguayan international Gaston Ramirez who moved to Southampton for a record fee.

From a sports immigration perspective, Brabners acted on a number of successful work permit appeals including Russian Pavel Pogrebnyak’s move to Reading and the transfers of Americans Maurice Edu and Geoff Cameron to Stoke City.

Partner Matthew Bennett said: “It is testament to the depth of experience in our team that we are able to assist a wide variety of clubs, both domestically and internationally, on increasingly complex deals as clubs start to conform to the new financial fair play regulations.”

The Brabners Chaffe Street team also included: Carol Couse, Stuart Baird, Chris Anderson, Matt Barnes, Stuart Ripley, David Bentham, Nicola Soden, Lydia Edgar, Sarah Davies and Andrew Gartside.
