Liverpool consults on £18.5m housing scheme

LIVERPOOL City Council is consulting residents in Edge Hill on an £18.5m new housing development.
The authority, in partnership with Bellway Homes, is proposing 150 homes on land bounded by Wavertree Road, Marmaduke Street, Gladstone Road and Dorothy Drive which is still occupied by Victorian terraces.
Those houses are due for demolition in this autumn.
The council says around three quarters of the new properties will be three and four-bedroom homes. The rest will be two-bed houses and bungalows.
All will have off-street car parking, gardens to the front and rear, and include “innovative ‘heat recovery’ ventilation systems which reduce energy use”, said the council.
Cabinet member for housing, councillor Ann O’Byrne, said: “The completion of the first phase of the Williamson Place scheme has brought a huge boost to Edge Hill, with an influx of new residents living alongside the existing community in modern, well-designed, energy-efficient homes. I’m delighted that we are now bringing forward plans for Phase Two of the scheme.
“It’s vital we continue to work closely with the community and our partners to ensure that the plans are guided by local people and complement wider regeneration proposals for the neighbourhood.
“I would urge as many local people as possible to come along to this public event, find out about more about our proposals for the area and let us know what they think.”
The first phase – 164 homes – should be finished by early next year.
