LAW firm Cobbetts has underlined its Middle East ambitions with a new tie-up with a leading lawyer in Saudi Arabia.

The firm has agreed a partnership with Jeddah-based lawyer Nidal Atta to develop its work in the country.

In April senior partner Stephen Benson told TheBusinessDesk.com the firm wants to grow its international work to around 25% of turnover within four years and is targeting the Middle East and Scandinavia as platforms for growth.

The Middle East expanion is being led by Leeds-based partner Mark Green.

He said: “As business relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and UK continue to flourish, it becomes ever more important that we establish a reliable local presence in that country.

“Dr Atta enjoys an excellent reputation in Jeddah and Riyadh, having acted for a number of the Saudi Arabia’s leading businesses. We look forward to developing a long association with him, to help serve the growing international demands of our clients.”

Dr Atta’s existing clients include Al Altoun Steel Industries, food-stuff and packaging manufacturer AK Saeed Group, private equity investor El Salam International and Gulf environmental protection company Sepco Environment.

He said: “For some time I have been looking for the right international firm to bring UK legal expertise to my firm’s clients in the areas of corporate and commercial law and public market advice, as well as real estate and banking law.

“Having visited Cobbetts in the UK, and having discussed our joint vision on a number of occasions in Jeddah, I am delighted to confirm our co-operation.”
