Swinton Commercial buys Burnley broker

SWINTON Group has bolted-on Burnley-based broker Greys Insurance to its commercial business, adding £1m in gross written premiums.

Manchester-based Swinton acquired Greys, which is predominantly a commercial broker, and merged Greys’ customers into its existing Burnley premises.

Swinton’a commercial unit has 34 offices nationally, while its personal branch network has 553 outlets. The latest acquisition forms part of the group’s strategy to expand the reach of its commercial division, developing its UK local broker proposition.

Founded in 1925, Greys Insurance originally focused on farming communities, before expanding its services to include personal lines such as car and home insurance, as well as commercial cover including fleet, contractor and office insurances.

Four Greys sales staff have joined Swinton’s Grimshaw Street offices in the centre of the town.

Swinton Commercial director Carolyn Callan, said: “This is an exciting time for Swinton Commercial with the acquisition of Greys Insurance, representing our ambitions to continue to grow the business.

“Acquisitions such as this help us to increase our coverage of the UK while retaining local knowledge and experience. It’s also allowed us to develop key skills and expertise within our teams, enabling us to provide the very best service to our clients.

“We are delighted to welcome the highly skilled insurance professionals of Greys Insurance to the Swinton team, and very much look forward to the valuable contributions they will make.”
