E&Y partner Elaine O’Donnell seeks fresh challenge

ONE of the region’s few female corporate finance partners, Elaine O’Donnell of Ernst & Young, is leaving practice to pursue a new challenge.
After 15 years with the Big Four firm – the last seven as partner – she is stepping down in November to build a portfolio career in the business community.
She told TheBusinessDesk.com: “I have had a great career with Ernst & Young but I want to work in business, rather than advising them.
“This is a milestone year for me – I never thought I would spend 15 years with one firm – and I have decided it’s time for a fresh challenge.”
Married to solicitor Andrew Curwen, a partner with Stockport firm Gorvins, and mother to two young sons, Niall and Eoin. she is already talking to a number of companies with a view to potentially working with them.
She said: “It’s very exciting – I am in early stage discussions around a number of interesting opportunities.”
During her time with E&Y, she has advised on more than 70 corporate deals with an overall value in excess of £2bn. Her clients include: Speedy Hire Plc, Pilkington NSG, Carole Nash, Latitude, and Globe Union.
Over the last four years she has played a key role in the firm’s flagship programme Entrepreneur Of The Year, acting as North West lead partner sponsor, a role she has relished.
“It has been fantastic to meet and work with such inspiring and driven individuals. I have my fingers crossed the North West will have a national winner at the finals next month.”
North West senior partner, Simon Allport said: “Elaine has made a significant contribution to our business in the North West. She is a valued partner and a well-known figure in the market place.
“We wish Elaine all the best for the future and look forward to her being an active member of our Alumni.”
The firm’s M&A team across the North will continue to be headed by Ken Williamson. Originally from Derry in Northern Ireland, Elaine graduated in 1992 from the University of Kent with a degree in Accounting and Law.
