Acquisitions pay off for Engenda

RUNCORN engineering business Engenda has enjoyed a 75% increase in first quarter sales.

The business, which specialises in outsourced engineering services to the power, chemical, oil and gas, sectors, said sales grew to around £6m.

Engenda was set up in December 2009 by engineering entrepreneur Les O’Hare as an acquisition vehicle for “high quality businesses”. It expects full-year sales of £25m.

Managing director Lee Foundation said: “We have acquired and integrated four businesses in the last three years.

“This has been a massive task and we are now starting to reap the rewards of buying those firms. We have  reorganised the businesses and achieved significant efficiencies and savings by merging key departments.

“Critically we are now beginning to really see the benefit of sharing business opportunities within the new Engenda Group. Previously as stand-alone businesses certain jobs would have been outside the individual company’s expertise and work would have been outsourced elsewhere.

“However, under the Engenda banner we now have the expertise to undertake all engineering work. We provide customers with better value and greater efficiency as they can employ one company to manage and deliver their ME&I (manufacturing executive and intelligence) engineering work.

Recent UK deals include completing electrical works on SAICA’s paper mill at Carrington, Manchester; Centrica Storage’s Easington Gas Terminal, Humberside; and Total’s Lindsey Oil Refinery, Immingham.

It is also working on overseas contracts in Spain, Holland, Norway, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Australia, Korea and Algeria.
