Appointments: Lloyds lures Bemment; Miller joins DSW; Scholes signs for Brabners & more

LLOYDS Bank Wholesale Banking and Markets, has boosted its senior team in Manchester, East Lancs & East Cheshire with the appointment Glenn Bemment as a relationship director.

Mr Bemment joins from HSBC in Manchester and in his new role will take responsibility for businesses with an annual turnover of more than £100m.

Lloyds’ Manchester, East Lancs & East Cheshire team lists nationwide retailer Matalan, Swinton Insurance, and JD Sports among its existing large corporate customer portfolio.

Area director Dave Allanson said: “Glenn is one of the region’s most respected operators and his appointment is a major coup for us. He brings real additional strength that bolsters our offering for existing mid-market customers and helps continue to grow our market share.”

BUSINESS adviser Dow Schofield Watts has appointed a senior manager from KPMG’s Manchester office to head a new VAT services division.

Keith Miller, who has more than 20 years’ experience in the field, will lead DSW’s VAT services arm across the North West and North East.

He spent eight years at KPMG, where he helped build and lead its northern mergers and acquisitions VAT practice. Before that he worked at Deloitte and HM Revenue and Customs.

James Dow, who founded DSW with Jon Schofield and Mark Watts in 2002, said: “The addition of VAT services will enable us to not only provide valuable support to our clients in this complex area of tax but also to help them identify new opportunities that exist to improve their VAT position.

“Keith is also experienced in providing specialist VAT services to private equity clients and helping high net worth individuals manage the impact of VAT and customs duty on luxury asset ownership.”

Mr Miller said: “I had always thought there was an opportunity for the provision of niche VAT services in the corporate finance sector, so had no hesitation in agreeing to join James and his colleagues to help develop their business even further.”

INVESTMENT bank Altium has made two new hires in its Manchester office.

Dominic Orsini has joined as an associate from KPMG, where he specialised in working with distressed and under-performing businesses. At Altium he will be working on deals in a variety of sectors including leisure, e-commerce and energy.
 
The second newcomer is Jon Stead, a graduate analyst, who has been offered a permanent role after completing two internships. He recently graduated from the University of Nottingham with a first in Economics.

NORTH West law firm Brabners Chaffe Street has expanded its private client team with the appointment of Louise Scholes as a consultant.

Joining from DWF where she led its Liverpool private client team, she be based at Brabners’ office in the city.brabners louise scholes

She specialises in trusts and tax planning as well as wills and estates and is STEP qualified.  She also has a particular interest in court of protection work and has wide experience acting as professional deputy.
