‘FDs shape the future of businesses’

Gary Davison

FINANCE directors are crucial to the future direction of a business, according to Ernst & Young partner Gary Davison.

The achievements of finance directors will be celebrated at the North West Finance Director of the Year Awards later this year. Entries are now being accepted for the awards.

Mr Davison, a partner in the capital and debt advisory team in Manchester, believes the FD’s role in the financial positioning of a business is essential to future strategy decisions.

He said: “An FD is critical to the direction and trajectory of the business. He or she will provide clear and meaningful insight in the financial positioning of the business enabling the board to make sound decisions based on solid facts.

“At the same time the FD is guiding them through areas of potential financial vulnerability and ensuring the capital structure of the business remains appropriate for their future path.”

He added: “An FD is the custodian of solid corporate governance and controls ensuring credibility with major stakeholders. The role brings clarity to the trading performance and identifies key risks in the business plan.”
