Eastern promise for Clippy’s Jams

MICHELLE McKenna, who started her business at her kitchen table in Sale four years ago, is sending her British Bramley apple conserves to China in a bid to secure permanent listings in some of the country’s biggest stores.

The trial follows strong interest in Clippy’s products from Chinese retailers at the Sial 2012 Shanghai International Food Fair earlier this year.

McKenna, who named the jam after her own nickname ‘Clippy’, has already had a taste of international success in the US where her products can be found on the shelves of TK Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods.

She said: “We know that there is a real market for premium jam and traditional British products in China and so this is an exciting new chapter for Clippy’s.

“We’ve already had interest from up-market retailers in China such as City Super, Jusco, and Yaohan, and we hope that this trial will encourage them to list us in their stores on a more permanent basis. Exporting our products overseas is an important part of our plan to grow the Clippy’s brand.”

Clippy’s British-apple based conserves, relishes, chutneys, savoury jellies and Marmachilli are available in supermarkets across the UK, including Tesco, Morrisons and Asda.
