BA to axe daily Gatwick flights

British Airways

BRITISH Airways is axing its three daily flights from Manchester Airport to Gatwick from the end of March next year.

The carrier will instead focus on its Heathrow route, which it serves with up to 11 flights a day.

In a short statement BA said: “British Airways retains a strong presence in Manchester where it currently employs over 400 staff at the airport, at the airline’s call centre and BA CityFlyer head office in Didsbury.

“In addition to the Heathrow flights, there are two flights a day to Billund and two to Gothenberg that fly in British Airways colours from Manchester, operated by franchise partner SunAir.”

In the last few years BA has slashed its regional services, selling its BA Connect airline to Flybe and axing its Manchester to New York flight to focus its international operations on Heathrow.
