Peel markets stadium development opportunities

THE Peel Group has set up a new joint venture with Salford City Council to market 43 acres around Salford City Reds’ stadium for leisure and retail uses.

The stadium – another joint venture between Peel and the council – currently owns the land which has been divided into seven plots ranging in size from half an acre to 20 acres.

Planning permission has already been granted for 230,000 sq ft of bulky goods retail.

Ed Burrows, property director at Peel said: “We are pleased to be able to bring a new retail and leisure opportunity to the market. The site is next to the newly-built Salford City Stadium and will benefit from easy accessibility as well as high visibility from the M60 motorway at Barton Bridge.”

City Mayor, Ian Stewart, said: “This is an exciting opportunity at a prime site that is set to undergo significant redevelopment in the next couple of years. It will bring new job opportunities for Salford people when we really need them. Businesses can thrive in Salford and we will do what we can as a local authority to support those who want to invest in the area.”

Work will soon start on the first phase of new roads which will link the site to the Trafford Centre. The second phase will improve access to the nearby M60 motorway. Cushman & Wakefield is the agent on the site.
