Stockport approves plans for 300 houses

STOCKPORT Council has approved plans for 300 houses at two different sites.

Stockport College is selling its campus at Buckingham Road, Heaton Moor to Bellway Homes which wants to build 129 houses on the site and its associated playing fields.

Of these 72 will be four bed, 50 three-bed and seven two-bed.

It is part of a larger application, which includes a further 90 homes on employment land at the back of Crossley Park Industrial Estate.

Approval has been granted subject to a section 106 agreement, but Bellway is still negotiating the purchase of the land.

The college decided to sell up after losing Government funding in 2009. It is planning to consolidate its activities at one site in Stockport town centre.

Despite concerns from nearby residents over the design and density of the development, the council said it would, “deliver the regeneration of a part brownfield site in a highly sustainable location in a pre-dominantly residential area”.

At Adswood, near Cheadle, Howard Hagan’s Urban Waterside, the firm which developed the first phase of Salford Quays in the 1980s, has consent for 168 homes on scrub land.
