Daisy JV wins £80m council IT contract

LANCASHIRE business communications provider Daisy Group and a joint venture partner have won a 10-year contract with a local council worth more than £80m.

The Nelson-based company expects the deal with Essex County Council
will add more than £20m to its revenues.

Daisy and its joint venture partner, Updata Infrastructure (UK), will manage and develop the IT network infrastructure and associated services for the council.

The contracted services will form part of Essex’s next generation network, which will initially connect schools and corporate sites but has the capacity to quickly encompass other public sector stakeholders – for example, the NHS , local district, borough and unitary councils, Essex Police and Essex County Fire Services.

Daisy Group chief executive Matthew Riley said: “This contract win is an illustration of the success we can achieve in the public sector.

“Essex County Council’s choice of Daisy Group and Updata is testament to the high level of service and cost savings we can provide to our customers via a truly unified communications offering.  This is the blueprint for success for other local authorities and we look forward to being able to provide our services through the framework to reduce costs and transform access for public services to ICT.”

David Wilde, chief information officer at Essex County Council, added: “DUCL (the joint venture company) has developed a model that will deliver our strategic objectives and support the transformation of the council’s services delivered to our citizens.

“As part of its bid process, DUCL proposed a highly innovative and transparent commercial model that ensured best value for the county and helped us achieve our cost savings.”
