Council approves BAE’s Warton housing plan

DEFENCE giant BAE Systems has received outline planning application for residential redevelopment of the former GEC land adjoining its Warton site.

The site will allow for up to 240 new homes and a new entrance to the Warton plant, through a new junction off Lytham Road, to ease congestion.

Manchester-based transport and infrastructure consultancy SCP advised BAE on the planning application which was approved by Wyre Borough Council.

Ken Mellis, real estate manager at BAE Systems Properties said: “We are really excited about the prospects for Warton that this permission creates.

“The release of new housing land is very important to Fylde, but equally important is the improved access into the aerodrome site and Enterprise Zone that SCP have helped us secure.  SCP will continue their involvement through the detailed design and construction stage so that in 12 months’ time housebuilders can move onto their site and new businesses can start trading from the Enterprise Zone”

Jim Budd, director at SCP added: “This permission will create a new junction onto Lytham Road at the eastern end of Warton that will allow the majority of existing BAE traffic to access the aerodrome without going through the centre of the village.

“The new access road will also create an enhanced sense of arrival into the Enterprise Zone that will help to attract new businesses onto the site.”
