Frank Whittle hired for £2m sports development

ARCHITECTURE practice The Frank Whittle Partnership (FWP) has been commissioned to draw up a masterplan for a community sports development in Warwickshire.

The £2m plans include a 2,000-seat ground for the non-league football side Southam United and a pavilion for Southam United bowls club.

There will also be community football pitches for junior and five-a-side games on the 20-acre site.

A planning application should be submitted in the spring, and if approved, the work could be finished by the summer of 2014.

David Robinson, managing partner at FWP which has offices in Preston and Manchester, said: “We will be bringing all our experience of creating and developing sustainable, high-quality sports facilities for local communities to this project.

“The new ground will give the club modern facilities to match its ambitions for continued success on the pitch while delivering something special for its supporters. We also aim to provide the bowls club at Southam with fantastic facilities, along with sports pitches that are an asset to the whole community – including junior teams and players.”

FWP has a track record of working on sports grounds, having drawn up plans for Fleetwood Town, Oldham Athletic, Carlisle United and Swindon Town.
