Brendan Flood leaves Burnley FC board

BURNLEY Football Club investor and director has stepped down for personal reasons.

Mr Flood joined the board in 2006, invested the following year, and held the post of operational director during the club’s rise to the Premier League in 2009.

In a brief statement the Championship club said he had left for “personal reasons”.

It added: “Burnley Football Club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Brendan for his contribution to the club, of which he remains a valued supporter and significant shareholder.”

Mr Flood was behind Salford-based Modus property group which collapsed into administration in 2009 owing nearly £50m. In February 2010 eight of the Modus group companies were sold by administrators to Yorkshire-based Scarborough Development Group for £37m.

Tweeting earlier today, Mr Flood said: “I have settled my bank dispute, which has taken a lot out of me both financially and emotionally. 3 months off needed. Bye for now.”

Anglo Irish Bank launched a £35m writ in 2009 over alleged personal guarantees on loans relating to sites in Wakefield and Blackpool. That was followed  by a £250m counter-claim filed by Mr Flood and business partner James Riddell, who claimed Anglo Irish withdrew loan facilities. They said that move precipitated Modus’ collapse.

In 2009 Mr Flood wrote about his experiences at Burnley in the book, Big Club, Small Town and Me.
