Cheshire’s Sibelco UK makes Viaton swoop
CHESHIRE-based industrial minerals group Sibelco UK, has snapped up a £9m turnover Derbyshire family business.
Sibelco, which is headquartered in Belgium, has its UK base in Sandbach and has 13 other locations in this country.
It has boosted its product offering with the acquisition of Viaton Industries, which specialises in barite minerals for use in chemicals and coatings.
Viaton, which has around 40 staff, is one of Europe’s largest processors of mineral-based products in the field of particle size modification.
Mark James, managing director of Sibelco UK said: “Viaton represents an exciting addition to the Sibelco Group. We look forward to providing Viaton’s customers with the same high standards of service and product innovation, now with a wider mineral offering.”
The Viaton plant will immediately become fully integrated into Sibelco UK’s operations.
A team from law firm DLA Piper advised Sibelco UK on the deal. Financial terms were not disclosed. Freeth Cartwright advised the shareholders of Viaton Industries.
