Eversheds and DLA to cut jobs

EVERSHEDS has placed 166 jobs at risk of redundancy, including 82 fee earners, with around 16 of the total positions being affected at its Manchester office.

The firm is restructuring its UK real estate and company commercial practices due to the “anticipated volume of transactional activity in the medium term”, alongside the closure of its 29-strong Copenhagen office.

It said it was committed to redeploying and relocating staff, where possible, to other areas of the business. Consultation with staff affected by the potential redundancies began yesterday.

A spokesman said: “Having established a new, clear strategy for the firm, we are now implementing the management and operational changes that will turn our strategic objectives into a successful operational reality.

“The overall performance of the firm to date this year has been in line with our expectations, although there has been some variable performance across certain geographies and practice areas.”

DLA Piper has confirmed that following a consultation with staff last year it is to centralise its 116-staff document production team to Leeds which will affect 14 jobs in Manchester and 13 in Liverpool.

Small teams will remain based at each of the firm’s other UK offices in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Sheffield.

The firm is also closing its Glasgow office with the loss of 45 jobs. It is also to sell its 50-strong defendant insurance arm to two separate firms.
