‘People power’ to drive down energy bills

LANCASHIRE residents are being encouraged to combine their purchasing power to drive down home energy bills.

All the counties councils, except Blackpool, are working with homeowners under the “People Power” initiative to seek a better deal from energy suppliers.

They say each household could save £250 a year if a target of 15,000 people sign up to the scheme. Energy suppliers will bid for the business at an auction on April 9.

Cllr Kate Hollern, leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council said: “This Lancashire wide scheme is an excellent example of how, by working together, your local councils are helping people save money from their energy bills.

“Energy costs take up a large proportion of household incomes so any money we can help people save will be helpful during these difficult times. We would urge residents to sign up to the scheme and ask their families to do the same. This way we will be able to get the best deal from the energy companies.”
