Morris Homes to ramp-up building activity

INDEPENDENT housebuilder Morris Homes, has announced plans to start work on 18 new housing developments across the North and Midlands with a combined development value of £258m.

Nearly 1,200 homes will be built at the new sites, which will all be opened for sale within the next 12 months.

The company is stepping up its build programme in response to increased demand and rising sales.

Mike Gaskell, managing director of the Wilmslow-based company, said: “All of the indicators for the housing market are positive thanks to rising consumer confidence and the impact of Government schemes such as FirstBuy and NewBuy, which have made it possible for more people to buy a new home.”

He welcomed the announcements in last weeks Budget, stating: “There is no doubt that the market is already showing renewed signs of life and we have seen a noticeable pick up in activity over the last few months.

“That said, mortgage availability is still a frustrating factor, particularly for young couples, who are unable to find a sizeable deposit.  As such, the measures announced in the budget are extremely welcome and will greatly assist in getting people on to the housing ladder.”

Morris’ new sites in 2013 include the 1,200 home consortium development, Bridgewater Park, in Northwich. Work is due to start on the site next month.
