Sovereign Leisure snookered as administrators called in

A SNOOKER table manufacturer that emerged from the failure of Burnley’s Riley Leisure 10 years ago has gone into administration.
Sovereign Leisure was set up in March 2003 by a group of craftsmen from the Riley factory that had closed several months before.
According to the company’s website they went into business because they, “could not bear to see their skills laid to waste”. Their aim was to make the highest quality snooker and pool tables in the industry.
However, administrators from the accountancy firm Leonard Curtis were appointed to the Accrington-based firm on March 21.
Riley’s heritage was in the EJ Riley business which was set up in Accrington in the late 1800s. It went on to be one of the country’s largest manufacturers of billiards tables and cricket bats. It also started the Riley’s snooker hall business that was sold off some time ago.
At the time of publication Leonard Curtis had not responded to an inquiry from TheBusinesDesk.com about the circumstances around the failure.
