Appointments: Lancs LEP; Irwin Mitchell; Farleys; GM Chamber & more

THE Lancashire Enterprise Partnership has appointed Jim Carter, deputy chairman of the Eric Wright Group, to its board.
Mr Carter is a former chief executive of the Preston-based construction group and is also a director of Preston Vision and Preston Youth Zone Plus. He is also chairman and a trustee of the Eric Wright Trust – set up to put company profits into supporting under-privileged groups within the region.
He said: “The LEP is doing exciting work and driving economic growth for the county. I’m looking forward to playing my part in making a real difference in enabling companies to prosper and create jobs. Much has been achieved by the LEP since it was established two years ago and I’m confident it will go on to accomplish much more.”
Edwin Booth, chairman of the Lancashire LEP added: “Jim brings a wealth of experience, particularly with Eric Wright Group, a leading company within the building industry, and I’m sure he will make a huge contribution to our work in driving economic development for Lancashire.”

THE Manchester office of national law firm, Irwin Mitchell, has promoted commercial property lawyer Claire Quinn to partner.
Claire, who joined Irwin Mitchell earlier this year as part of a 14-strong team which moved from DLA Piper, specialises in general non-contentious commercial real estate work for a broad range of commercial clients. She principally acts for Canal & River Trust (formerly known as British Waterways), Murray Steel, Mapeley, Vue and ITV.
Anita Weightman, partner and head of real estate at Irwin Mitchell in Manchester said: “Claire will be the sixth real estate partner in Manchester and this investment in building the senior team is providing us with a key differentiator enabling the firm to continue providing the level of service and expertise that clients want.”
In addition Janet Sandford, Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester-based head of talent and resourcing, has been promoted to associate director – a level which is the equivalent of partner status at the firm.

ANIMATION company Cosgrove Hall Fitzpatrick Entertainment has appointed Sir Eric Peacock as chairman.
The announcement comes shortly after Sir David Jason he would be joining the board as a non-executive director.
Sir Eric has over 40 years’ experience working with businesses in the consumer and industrial sectors.
He will work with the team at CHF to accelerate the firm’s growth internationally and exploit merchandising and licensing opportunities in overseas markets. CHF is preparing to set up in Manchester to produce a children’s series for Channel 5.

LANCASHIRE law firm Farleys has promoted Manchester-based sports lawyer Daniel Draper to equity partner.
Mr Draper joined Farleys as a trainee solicitor in 2005. He set up and runs the sports law division, which counts several Premiership footballers, the PFA and Lancashire FA amongst its clients,
Michael Corrigan, managing partner, said: “Daniel will play an important part in further developing our sports law practice and the partnership in general. He has made a substantial contribution to the firm over the years and we anticipate that he will play a significant role in the firm’s future growth.”

GREATER Manchester Chamber of Commerce has strengthened its management team with the appointment of Stella Bowdell as head of membership and Paul Smith as head of communications.
The new hires follow the relaunch of the chamber’s website and corporate branding.
Chief executive Clive Memmott said: “Our members, in these challenging times, need us to deliver a service which offers help, support and timely insight. The appointment of Stella and Paul is part of this wider strategy to make sure that the chamber offer meets and where possible exceeds those expectations.”
Stella Bowdell joins from the Chartered Management Institute and Mr Smith from Creative England.

SALE integrated agency One Marketing Communications has expanded its PR department with the appointment of account manager Dave Beresford.
Wayne Silver, deputy managing director of the South Manchester based agency said: “We are delighted to welcome Dave into our expanding PR team. His experience driving targeted, results-based campaigns will provide the agency with the added support that we need as we continue to grow.”
Mr Beresford previously worked for Wirral-based Polaris Media.
