Selwyns boosts fleet with £1.6m investment

NORTH West coach firm Selwyns Travel has boosted its fleet with a £1.6m investment in seven new vehicles.
The family-owned Runcorn-based company will use the new 49 seat executive coaches on its National Express contract.
The acquisitions of the Volvo / Plaxton Elite coaches which were funded by Lombard, the the asset finance arm of The Royal Bank of Scotland, increases the size of Selwyns fleet to 65, making it one of the largest coach operators in the region.
Selwyns has operated coach services on behalf of National Express for more than 15 years. The company provides vehicles in National Express livery that operate on daily services throughout the country.
Founded in 1968 by the late Robert Jones, the company is today managed by his son Selwyn.
As well as the National Express contract Selwyns is a major player in the airport crew transport market, transferring crew and passengers at both Manchester and Liverpool airports. It employs 200 people at Runcorn, Manchester Airport and in St Helens.
The company also provides vehicles for corporate and private hire as well as its holiday and excursion products.
Selwyn Jones, managing director of Selwyns Travel, said: “We aim to provide our customers with quality vehicles that are modern and reliable and to achieve this it is essential that we continually invest in our fleet.”
Chris Hutchison from Lombard and Alastair Newall from NatWest in Chester provided funding to Selwyns Travel.
Mr Hutchison commented: Selwyns’ forward looking approach is one of the reasons why they have been successful for over 40 years. They are committed to improving the services they offer to their customers and we are pleased to be able to help them upgrade their fleet.”
