Legal news: Hill Dickinson; Gateley; Kuits; Brabners

HILL Dickinson has announced its latest promotions, with five partners becoming salaried members and five becoming legal directors.
 
Liverpool-based trio Matt Noon (corporate), Jonathan Anslow (professional risk) and Stuart Kempson (shipping), have been promoted along with by London office-based pair Pawel Wysocki and Ian MacLean.

Joining the legal director ranks are Derek Millard-Smith in regulatory (Liverpool), Brenda Wright in professional risk (Manchester), Stephen Edwards in the firm’s Whitefriars non-fault personal injury division in Liverpool, and London-based  Susan Leonard (commodities) and Mary Prentice (shipping).

 Hill Dickinson’s managing partner, Peter Jackson commented: “Supporting and recognising achievement is as important as undertaking a strategic review of the firm, which we recently announced. We are extremely proud to be able to publicise promotions across the board, with notable success in the areas of insurance and marine.”

Last week Hill Dickinson warned that a small number of jobs may be lost as the result of a business review across the firm’s offices network which includes Chester and Manchester in this region as well as several overseas.

GATELEY has bolstered its Manchester-based corporate team with associate Stephen Roberts after it was ranked as the North West’s number one legal advisor in a key industry corporate deals table.

The firm’s corporate and banking teams in Manchester have moved into first place by deal volume in Q1 of 2013 in the Experian Corpfin M&A Advisor League Table.

Manchester partner, Charles Glaskie, who now heads Gateley’s corporate group, said: “In what continues to be a challenging market, Gateley has had a successful start to the year, achieving impressive market growth and completing a raft of high-profile regional deals.

“Such growth has provided a solid platform to expand our team and Stephen brings with him a wealth of experience to complement our service offering.”

Recent deals completed by the Manchester team include advising private equity firm NorthEdge Capital and the sale of coach transport firm Selwyn’s Travel to RATP.

Following an lengthy tender process, Liverpool, Manchester and Preston-based Brabners Chaffe Street was chosen along with specialist debt recovery law firm, Francis Wilks & Jones due to its  expertise in the recruitment sector.

MANCHESTER law firm Kuits and The Fashion Network recently hosted a high-level dinner for North West leaders in the fashion retail sector.

Industry heavyweights including JD Sports Fashion executive chairman Peter Cowgill attended the event along the representatives from smaller firms such as Gorgeous Couture, meemee.com, Influence, Oi Polloi and Hurley.
