Peel submits 100-home plan for Salford

PEEL Group has submitted outline plans for 100 homes on a greenfield site on the edge of Boothstown, Salford.

The 5.6-acre field sits between green belt land to the west of Vicars Hall Lane and housing on Highclove Lane.

A planning statement by Manchester-based Turley Associates states Peel’s case for building on farmland.

It argues that Salford City Council’s 2012 core strategy included a proposal to deliver 1,300 homes a year for five years, including 800 on greenfield land.

A planning inspector said this was too low and the number should be more like 1,600. But the Boothstown plan, and other proposed Peel developments around Salford have drawn criticism from campaigners who don’t want to see the loss of open space and wildlife habitats.

A statement on Peel’s website said: “The application will establish the principle of residential development on the site and set the design principles for the proposals. It is likely that the development will comprise two, three and four bed properties.”
