UKTI hosts free event on how to succeed in South America

NORTH West businesses are invited to a free event tomorrow, attended by the British Ambassadors from Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, which highlights export opportunities in these rapidly expanding markets.
As well as speaking at the event, the country Ambassadors will also be available for one to one meetings with companies who want to learn more about opportunities in a particular market.
Also attending the event are Paul Eadie MBE, UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) special adviser for South America, regional director Clive Drinkwater and local company Wheelwash, based in Cheshire, which already exports to South Amrica.
UKTI regional director Clive Drinkwater said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to meet a range of Ambassadors from South American markets, to hear first-hand about the opportunities available to potential exporters and to learn more about the business culture there.
“Mexico is a country with huge potential, which some analysts predict will have a larger economy than the UK by 2040, and which covers an area the same size as Western Europe.
“Peru has huge natural resources and has been a recent beneficiary of increased Asian-South American trade. Twenty FTSE 100 companies have direct investments in Peru, making the UK the second largest investor in the country after Spain.
“Venezuela has vast economic potential, with the oil and gas sector dominating its economy, bringing opportunities for UK companies in a range of sectors, and UK exports to Costa Rica are growing as well.
“In addition the expansion of the Panama Canal in 2015 will require ports in Central and South America to build new facilities to accommodate the bigger container ships, and there will be massive investment in port infrastructure over the next few years.”
The event will take place at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Friday 17 May from 8.30am to 3.00pm and will conclude a week of events and visits around the North West as part of Export Week: High Growth Markets.
