Asda plans new Birkenhead store

Wirral Council has approved a proposal from Castlewood Developments (Birkenhead) which will see supermarket giant Asda open a new 90.000 sq ft foodstore in Birkenhead’s town centre.

The store will be built on land at Grange Road. Building work is due to start in the Autumn and around 75 jobs will be created during the construction phase. Asda also estimates that the store will employ around 320 people within three years.

The council’s deputy leader Cllr Simon Holbrook said: “This news is a real boost to the Wirral economy and is a vote of confidence in Birkenhead town centre from a major retailer.

“We hope the store will act as a catalyst for other developments in the area and that local people will benefit from the many jobs created.   

“The Council have worked closely with the developer Castlewood Developments (Birkenhead) Ltd. and Asda over a number of years to ensure that Birkenhead gets the very best retail offer available.”
