3DReid turns its attention to Shenzhen skyscraper

3DReid, the architect behind the Co-operative Group’s One Angel Square, is overseeing the construction of a one million sq ft office block in the Chinese city of Shenzhen.

The firm’s Manchester office won a design competition a year ago for the 300m high block which also includes a 250-bed hotel. It is due for completion in 2014.

Mike Hitchmough, head of offices at 3DReid, said: “Not only have we been successful in establishing ourselves in the North West and getting recognition for the quality of our design work but we have also started to win projects internationally using the skills in our Manchester office.

“Manchester had great vision 25 years ago in establishing cultural and business relationships with China and the recently launched Manchester–China Forum demonstrates the ongoing commitment of key stakeholders within the city to assist local business like ours with an international outlook.”

3DReid has offices in Manchester, London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh as well as Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and China. It was named International Practice of the Year at the Architects’ Journal’s recent awards.
