Manufacturer HPP expands after council land deal

AN OLDHAM furniture manufacturer is expanding after buying a plot of land from the local council.

Hill Panel Products, which supplies kitchen and bedroom manufacturers with doors, cupboards and a range of components, will extend its warehouse facilities by around 16,000 sq ft after buying the land on Kings Road, next to its existing site on Scottfield Road.

Chairman and founder Stephen Hill told TheBusinessDesk.com the expansion should create a further five jobs. HPP already employs 140 people in Oldham and the investment in the new facility will secure the company’s future in the town for at least five years, Mr Hill said.

Oldham councillor Shoab Akhtar, cabinet member for business and town centres, said: “This move is good news for all concerned – a vacant plot of council-owned land is being brought back into use and more importantly one of the borough’s major employers is being given the opportunity to grow its business right here

“We are delighted that we have been able to help out and that HPP are staying in the borough rather than looking elsewhere for new premises.”

HPP was formed in the Borough in 1991 to supply components to the furniture industry. Since then the company and product range have expanded to cover full and processed sheet material, vinyl wrapped furniture doors and furniture fittings. HPP now has more than 140,000 sq ft of floor space on two sites.

Mr Hill added: “Continual development and expansion has always been a key feature of our success and we are delighted to have been able to work with Oldham Council to secure this deal which will allow the further growth of our door manufacturing and warehousing operation.”
