Lake District hotels invest in biomass

BLACKPOOL-based Choice Hotels has invested £300,000 in installing energy-saving biomass boilers at its hotels in the Lake District.

Installation at the Keswick Country House Hotel will be complete by the end of the month, with the boiler system at Patterdale Hotel being fitted immediately after.

Biomass boilers heat buildings using wood pellets, wood chips or logs. Choice Hotels’ boiler systems are being provided by Barden Energy, a renewable energy company based in Kirkby Lonsdale.

Julian Kollard, director at Choice Hotels, said: “Our Lake District hotels are surrounded by some of the most breath-taking scenery in the country, and this investment is part of the wider role we play in protecting our environment for guests to enjoy.

“As well as producing carbon-neutral and renewable energy, these high-tech systems are also cost effective, meaning that we can keep our prices low and provide better value for money.”

Choice Hotels has five hotels, with the other three based in Blackpool.
