Applearn in 135 jobs pledge

APPLEARN, a training video specialist at the Sharp Project in east Manchester, is planning to take on a further 135 staff over the next five years.

The business, which produces and hosts on-line tutorials for businesses, has just taken a long leases on two of the four green screen studios at the centre.

It has also doubled the size of its office to 2,690 sq ft.

Applearn, which currently has 15 staff, has secured international clients including Hudbay Minerals in Canada, train and aircraft manufacturer Bombardier, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group in Hong Kong and the Intercontinental Hotel Group.

Founder and chief executive Mark Barlow said: “We stream training and communication tutorials to employees and managers situated anywhere around the world, in any language and to any device.

“We then provide analytical feedback which gives our clients a crucial insight into how their entire workforce is engaging with their talent and performance programmes. Our service is particularly attractive to global companies that have large numbers of employees, across a number of countries, and need to communicate the same messages and deliver consistent training quickly and cheaply in multiple languages.

“A facility like this at The Sharp Project is essential to allow us to expand so we can meet demand. These studios, the only dedicated fully sound-proofed green screen suite in the UK, will enable us to create training videos on an industrial scale.  If we use the studios on a five-day week, eight-hour day basis, we will be able to create 50,000 training tutorials a year.  If this turns into a 24/7 operation then the capacity could double.”
