James Fisher wins African offshore contract

BARROW-based marine services group James Fisher has picked up a “multi-million pound” contract with oil group Total in West Africa.

The group’s Strainstall subsidiary, which specialises in load management, has won the job through Hyundai Heavy Industries to work on a mooring and monitoring system at a rig off the Congolese coast.

Chief executive Nick Henry said: “With offshore structures becoming larger and more complex, effective monitoring is increasingly critical to these high value oil and gas assets.

“The information Strainstall gathers is essential to enable certain operations, such as drilling, to proceed safely. This latest award, together with recent selection by Shell for the Prelude project, continues to build on Strainstall’s international reputation for providing unrivalled expertise to some of the world’s most demanding offshore projects.”
