Appointments: Ruth Percival makes partner at BDO & more

RUTH Percival has been promoted to M&A partner at the Manchester office of accountants and business advisers BDO.

Previously a director at the firm, has more than 15 years’ corporate finance experience.

Ms Percival, 40,  joined BDO in Manchester in 2007 from a2e Venture Catalysts and has worked on several notable regional deals including the £95m sale of MediaVest to Aegis Group plc and is currently leading the acquisition trail of healthcare communications heavyweight, Fishawack. 

She will lead the Manchester M&A team with Tim Clarke and support the broader Northern corporate finance offering.

Commenting on her promotion Ms Percival said: “The opportunity to become a partner in the M&A team is an exciting one. We have a great team in place; one that is complemented by ambitious clients that continue to look for growth in what is still a difficult market for many.”

SPECIALIST Manchester law firm Croftons has boosted its ranks with the appointment of Kirsty Varley, a housing management lawyer, who has joined from Salford City Council.

Social housing and regeneration-focused Croftons is based at the Lexicon on Mount Street.

Managing partner Simon Leighton ssaid: “Kirsty has a wealth of experience in the housing sector, is technically well regarded, and, more importantly, understands our clients’ issues and how best to help them.  Kirsty will be a fantastic addition to our fast-growing team.”

Kirsty Varley is highly experienced in all aspects of housing and crime, dealing with applications for injunctions, possession claims, ASBOs and committal proceedings. She was the solicitor responsible for obtaining the recent gang injunctions in Salford which were widely publicised, and for which she received a Divisional Commander’s award from Greater Manchester Police.

CHESHIRE-based technology PR consultancy Context has appointed Amy O’Shaughnessy as account director. She joins from mobile-phone distributor 20:20 Mobile, where she was senior marketing manager.

She has experience in marketing and PR roles across a number of sectors and will be working with a range of clients, including communications company TTG, touchscreen technology firm LifeSize Touch, and home security specialists Y-cam.

Managing director Frank Smith said: “This is a strategic choice for Context. Amy brings both a strong track record for team-building combined with all the core marketing and communications skills.”

WILMSLOW business travel management company Review Travel has hired Hollie German and Karl Boyle, and promoted Sally Coombes.

Boyle has joined as a business travel consultant while German is an accounts administrator. Coombes has been with Review Travel for over 13 years, and has now been promoted to office and finance manager. She will support chief executive Christian Gleave.

He said: “Over the last 12 months we have seen a period of growth, which is down to us embracing new technology as well as retaining our client focused approach. I am delighted that Karl and Hollie have joined us to help with our continued growth and that Sally will support me in managing the business.”
