MAG close to signing Airport City hotel operator

MANCHESTER Airports Group is “close” to agreeing terms with an operator for a “pre-funded” 350 bedroom hotel within its Airport City scheme.
Airport City property director David Roberts gave an update as he addressed The Profile Club, a south Manchester business leaders’ network.
He said interest was high in the £650m multi-phase project, which comprises office space, a logistics hub and the Manchester MediPark close to Wythenshawe Hospital.
Mr Roberts spoke of creating a “mini-Spinningfields” feel in the central business district part of the scheme, where there would be pleasant open space for occupiers to enjoy, including cafes and a park area.
Referring to the hotel deal he said: “It’s in legals at the moment, but were very close to making an announcement. The response to Airport City is very positive and the progress with the hotel is reflective of that.”
Mr Roberts said the airport is “raising its game” in terms of logistics provision. Capacity is set to more than double from 110,000 tonnes to 250,000 tonnes and the interest in the 1.4 million sq ft logistics hub will mean it will move faster than the office development.
