Addleshaw Goddard launches legal apprenticeships

LAW firm Addleshaw Goddard is launching a legal apprenticeship scheme this autumn for school leavers considering an alternative to university.

The firm is offering 10 places paying £12,000 a year based in its transaction services team (TST) at its Manchester office. The number of recruits could rise in later years, the firm says

The apprentices will train towards a NVQ Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services. The scheme is currently being advertised through schools, colleges and recruitment agencies to students completing A’ levels or an equivalent qualification this summer.

Each apprentice will have a dedicated supervisor and a mentor and will receive extensive in-house training as well as assessment and training from an external training provider to complete the NVQ.

The firm’s transactions services team supports qualified lawyers, and was introduced by Addleshaw Goddard as an alternative, more efficient approach to the conventional delivery of standardised process.

Currently made up of 80 paralegals, the Manchester-based TST was launched in 2010. Addleshaws expects to be delivering at least 10% of its work through the team  by 2015.

Andrew Chamberlain, head of client delivery at Addleshaw Goddard said: “By resourcing work differently, we are creating an environment that is attractive to talented individuals across all levels of our business and we’re excited about providing students with an alternative path into an international law firm.

“Going to University is not the right option for all, and this new structured career development opportunity is a credible alternative for talented, ambitious young people who prefer vocational learning as an entry point into an dynamic, long-term and rewarding career in law.”
