Property briefs: Landmark permission renewed ; Liverpool2; St John Bosco; and 78 homes in Oldham

PLANNING  permission has been renewed for the 175,000 sq ft office building to be built on the site of the former Odeon Cinema on Manchester’s Oxford Street.

Landmark, is a joint venture between US developer Hines and family-owned Manchester & Metropolitan Properties. It is Texas-headquartered Hines’ first move into the North West real estate market.

The 14-storey office building, to be called Landmark, will not be built until pre-let deals have been signed.

REGENERATION Liverpool, a joint venture between regeneration specialist Sigma Inpartnership and Liverpool City Council, has started the construction of the new St John Bosco Arts College as part of its development plans in Stonebridge.

Partner, Neptune Developments has hired VINCI Construction UK to design and construct a three-storey girls’ arts college in Croxteth, Liverpool.

The development forms part of Mayor Joe Anderson’s targets to deliver 12 new secondary, primary and special schools.

Around £170m is being invested, made up of council funds, borrowing and cash secured through the City Deal.

Graeme Hogg, director of Sigma Inpartnership, said: “It is great to see our plans starting to take shape on site at St

John Bosco School. Schools are a huge part of any community and an aspect of development that Regeneration Liverpool is very passionate about delivering. We are very proud to be involved in this project and ultimately in helping local students to continue their studies in the Stonebridge area.”

The school, which has 1,100 pupils, is set to open in September.

WORK has started in Oldham on 78 new homes at Keswick Avenue, Fitton Hill as part of the £113m “Gateways to Oldham” PFI contract. All be available for affordable rent.

The council and the Inspiral Oldham consortium, which consists of John Laing, Great Places Housing Group and Wates Living Space, officially entered into the landmark 25-year PFI contract in November 2011.

Councillor Dave Hibbert, cabinet member for environment and housing, said: “These new builds will provide much-needed family homes and the start of work is another milestone in the regeneration of Fitton Hill.

“Once construction is finished families will be moving into modern new accommodation and saving money on their energy bills as their new homes have been built to the highest eco-standards.”

BAM Nuttall and Van Oord have been appointed by Peel Ports to construct the new in-river quay wall for Liverpool’s new £300m deep water container terminal Liverpool2.

The companies have formed a joint venture to undertake work on the quay wall, which forms the berthing face for the terminal.

Piling operations will begin on September 10, with rock drilling to provide the sockets for the 47-tonne 1.8m diameter 40m long steel piles. More than 19,000 tonnes of steelwork and 30,000 tonnes of concrete will be required for the construction of the quay wall alone.

The new terminal will open in 2015, the same year as the widening of the Panama Canal is due to be completed and will enable a new generation of container ships to call at the Port of Liverpool.

PROPERTY consultant, GVA, has been instructed to market two freehold office units, located on the ground floor of the Great Northern Tower on Watson Street, Manchester, on behalf of a private investor.

Providing up to 6,385 sq ft, the bespoke office units can be fitted-out subject to the occupier’s requirements, with the vendor willing to provide a loan to fund the purchase of the units subject to conditions.
