Environmental Waste Controls seeks CVA deal

MERSEYSIDE waste and recycling group Environmental Waste Controls has fallen into administration as it seeks to reach an agreement with creditors.

The company, which employs 267 people at sites in Knowlsey, East Kilbride and Leiscestershire, is hoping to strike a deal through a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) on September 10.

The level of debt and the terms of the CVA have not been disclosed.

Les Ross and David Riley of Grant Thornton have been appointed to EWC and its subsidiary Environmental Waste Control (South London Community Recycling Services).

Mr Ross, pictured, said: “EWC is a profitable and cash generative business that has suffered due to some exceptional costs, unsuccessful litigation and the loss of a significant contract.

“Despite our appointment, it is business as usual and we will continue to service the customer’s needs throughout, what we hope will be, a short administration trading period. We are hopeful that the CVA proposal will be acceptable to creditors.”

The company is owned by William and Julia Edwards.
