Slater & Gordon completes Goodmans deal

LAW firm Slater & Gordon has completed its acquisition of Goodmans Law in Liverpool.

The transaction was first announced in May as one of a trio of deals valued at £22.8m.

It has also acquired Taylor Vinters in Cambridge but talks with Leeds-based Simpson Millar have been deferred until next year.

Goodmans Law, which has 36 staff, is a specialist personal injury practice with a focus on high value medical negligence and catastrophic injuries.

Slater & Gordon chief executive Neil Kinsella said: “The acquisition is part of our continued strategic growth strategy and will help Slater & Gordon to become one of the UK’s leading law firms. Goodmans Law has specialist expertise in brain and spinal injuries and claims arising from problems at birth. The team, who will remain in their Merseyside office, share our dedication to professional excellence and client care, which makes them an excellent cultural fit for Slater & Gordon.

“This is an exciting time for Slater & Gordon as we continue to build on our geographic presence and depth of talent in order to continue to help everyday people access world class legal services no matter where they live.”

Ian Cohen, Goodmans Law director, said: “This is a great day for the clients, staff and directors of Goodmans Law. We are delighted to be joining forces with Slater & Gordon. Together we look forward to using our enlarged size to help even more people gain justice and the compensation they are entitled to.”

Slater & Gordon, listed on the Australian stock market, entered the UK market last year with the acquisition of Russell Jones & Walker, the London-based personal injury and employment law specialist, for £53.8m. Through that deal it picked up an office in Manchester.

Last month it announced plans to buy Fentons, which has offices in Manchester, Failsworth and London, for £32.5m.
