Concourse refurb completed at Exchange Station

SPACE Northwest, a joint venture between Ashtenne and the Homes and Communities Agency, has completed the revamped 5,500 sq ft concourse at Exchange Station in Liverpool.

The work is part of the first phase of £5m of improvements a the building in Tithebarn Street.

The project involved a new concourse with concierge reception, meeting rooms, seating for informal meetings and a coffee shop.

It is part of a wider programme which also includes the refurbishment of six office suites of 18,000 sq ft and the installation of ultra-fast broadband along with energy efficient heating, cooling and lighting systems. There will also be secure bike storage, a gym, shower facilities and locker rooms.

Exchange Station closed as a railway station in the 1970s but the frontage was retained as part of a 190,000 sq ft office building called Mercury Court built in 1986.

Wayne Locke, director at Space Northwest, said: “The completion of the concourse marks a huge milestone in the redevelopment of Exchange Station as it represents the beating heart of the building and it’s a fantastic communal area for people to get together and talk business, which is very rare in office developments in the city centre.

“Not only has it had an extremely positive impact on our tenants to date, but guests to Exchange Station are made to feel equally as welcome so it is anticipated that the concourse will become a bustling, new business destination in the central business district.”

BDP is the architect and interior designer, while Savills is the project manager. Hilson Moran is leading the sustainability and services design and Keppie Massie is the letting agent.
