Allied London in ITV talks

SPINNINGFIELDS developer Allied London is in talks with ITV about taking on its former Quay Street site in Manchester, and is also preparing to submit plans for two new blocks.

TheBusinessDesk understands that Allied London is days away from signing an agreement that could see ITV retaining an interest rather than selling the 20-acre site outright.

The area, across Quay Street from Spinningfields, was vacated by ITV earlier this year, but is still the home of Coronation Street which will move to a new set at MediaCity.

It has consent for 1.2m sq ft of offices, 200,000 sq ft of retail, 895 homes and a 575-space car park. Earlier negotiations with Manchester-based Genr8 fell through and it is understood that exclusive talks with IKEA’s property arm, LandProp, have also ended.

A spokesman confirmed Allied London is also about to submit plans for the final pieces of the Spinningfields jigsaw – a new block to replace Quay House and i+, a seven-storey block aimed at the creative and digital sector that was first unveiled at the MIPIM property conference last year.

Early images for the Quay House replacement show a 19-storey block designed by Ian Simpson Architects. The i+ building will have 160,000 sq ft and is expected to be given a new name.
