Charity comedy night raises £10,000

THE Spinningfields Business Group (SBG) has raised over £10,000 for the Wood Street Mission children’s charity at its inaugural comedy black tie dinner.
More than 20 tables were sold to Spinningfields-based businesses for the event on September 19 at the Marriott Manchester Victoria and Albert Hotel.
Entertainment was provided by three North West comedians John Warburton, Barry Dodds and Steve Royle.
The money raised will support more than 400 local children over the next 12 months, allowing them access to all the services at Wood Street Mission which helps children and families throughout Manchester and Salford with clothing, bedding, toys and baby equipment.
SBG is a networking group which was formed three years ago by Bill Jones, managing partner at law firm JMW.
He said: “SBG is a great initiative that brings together senior business professionals from the Spinningfields business community. It offers a unique opportunity for like-minded individuals to network together and share ideas and our first dinner has provided the perfect platform to do this as well as raising much needed funds. I am delighted that many members of the SBG have pulled together to create a brilliant night and help Wood Street Mission.”
Jan O’Connor, manager at the Wood Street Mission, said: “This will support over 400 local children for a full year with basic items we all take for granted. We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from the Spinningfields community over the last few years not just in monetary contributions but also in much needed donations of children’s clothes, toys and books which are essential to us.”
The event was sponsored by JMW Solicitors and supported by the Marriott, T Wright Wine, the restaurant Australasia and events company Team Spirit.
