Appointments: PwC; Brabners; OBI Property; PLS Solicitors

LAW firm Brabners has appointed two new partners, Lachlan Nisbet and Robert Turner.
Lachlan Nisbet has experience in litigation and regulatory matters together with specialist expertise in health and safety, public and administrative law and criminal and disciplinary law. He previously carried out prosecution work for public bodies and has acted for military witness in the Baha Mousa Public Inquiry and the Al-Sweady Public Inquiry. He has joined the firm from Hill Dickinson, where he was a partner.
Corporate recovery and insolvency specialist Robert Turner has more than 10 years’ experience in the restructuring field and his expertise includes dealing with non contentious and contentious insolvency and acting for administrators, trustees in bankruptcy and other insolvency practitioners. He was formerly a partner at EOS Law, before which he was at Cobbetts.

PWC’s Manchester office has welcomed 35 graduates this week.
The new starters are among 123 graduates joining the accountancy group’s six northern offices and 1,100 across the UK.
There were 1,954 applications for the Northern places. As well as graduates, 10 school leavers have joined the Manchester office on the firm’s Higher Apprenticeships programme.
North West chairman Iwan Griffiths said: “We are very proud of our graduate scheme and continually develop and invest in it so it remains market leading. This will ensure we attract and retain the best graduates who will, in the future, help our clients grow and achieve their objectives. Our Higher Apprenticeship scheme, which has doubled the number of recruits this year in Manchester, has also enabled us to attract talent from a wider pool than ever before.”
The graduates have joined the firm across its tax, assurance, consulting, actuarial and advisory practices. Nationally applications have increased from 7,003 in 2008 to 22,123 in 2013. The firm has increased the number of graduate places by around 17% in the last five years.

PROPERTY agent OBI Property has appointed Darren Matthews to its building consultancy team as an associate director working along director Dominic Horridge, Joe Weilding and James Bostock.
Matthews was previously an associate at AA Projects and has joined Manchester-based OBI to assist with the delivery of over £15m of building consultancy work.
He said: “I am looking forward to working with OBI Property, the company is growing quickly and it is involved in some very exciting building projects. To be given the chance to be part of the team was too good an opportunity to pass up and I am relishing the challenges that lie ahead in my new role.”
OBI’s building consultancy team specialise in dilapidations, fit-out, office refurbishment and new build.

MANCHESTER law firm, PLS Solicitors has strengthened its top team with two new appointments.
The firm has appointed David Cousen as the new head of the personal insolvency department and member of the commercial litigation team.
Cousen, who has over 30 years’ experience in commercial litigation, joins from Fruhman Davies Livingstones Solicitors in Manchester. His expertise includes personal insolvency, corporate insolvency and commercial litigation.
Tricia Lonorgan has also joined the firm as head of operations. She joins from Barnetts Solicitors where she was operations director.
