Green light for Home Bargains warehouse

TJ Morris has secured planning approval for a 270,000 sq ft warehouse next to its headquarters in Liverpool.
The firm, which is behind the Home Bargains discount chain, wants to erect the distribution centre on 25 acres at the G-Park, west of the M57 near Fazakerley.
A planning statement said it would “enhance” the existing facility and give the firm extra capacity as it expands. It is expected to create an additional 150 jobs.
Last year the group, run by founder and managing director Tom Morris and his son, operations director Joe, announced plans to open a 700,000 sq ft distribution centre in Amesbury, Wiltshire to assist with its expansion in the south.
The most recent available accounts for the year to the end of June 2012 showed profits grew 41.5% to £84.1m on sales of £915m, up 27%.
The company, which now employs more than 8,000 people, has enjoyed the same spectacular growth as arch rival B&M Bargains which is building an extra 500,000 sq ft warehouse at its based in nearby Speke.
TJ Morris declined to comment.
